Las Vegas – Munich: test drive a new coupe Mercedes-Benz CLA
The debut of the second generation of the 4-door coupe Mercedes-Benz CLA was held at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) consumer electronics show in Las Vegas. With a more thorough analysis, the idea of marketers becomes clear – the main feature of the novelty is the unique information and entertainment system MBUX, which takes a person to a new level of communication. But the arrival on the new coupe Mercedes-Benz arranged in Munich. Forbes Life was one of the first to drive the updated CLA.
MBUX recognizes voice, gestures, and even simple movements, searches nearby objects for complex queries like “to find an Asian restaurant, but not Thai, no more than 10 km, and a rating not lower than 4.5” and easily answers tricky questions like “how shares grew Mercedes-Benz in the past five years. ” MBUX also has an interior assistant who can distinguish between the gestures of the driver and passenger and show them different settings and different favorites. As standard, the system combines two 7-inch touchscreen displays, but if desired, both can be replaced by 10.25-inch screens. However, during the test drive and the base diagonal it was enough: not a single plasma can compete with mountain landscapes in the windshield.
In order to emphasize the differences between the CLA and the recently debuted A-class sedan, Mercedes-Benz has pumped up its “muscles” to body panels, extended the hood, pushed back the passenger compartment, and the rear end was performed in the spirit of the GT. Even the license plate for greater sportiness moved from the trunk lid to the bumper.
From the S-Class, the CLA received a semi-autonomous control system, which with the help of cameras and radars can look ahead 500 meters. It includes adaptive cruise control, emergency braking, restraint and assistance when changing lanes. For the driver, Mercedes-Benz CLA has other “eyes” – smart optics, each headlamp has 18 LEDs with individual control.
Well, on the country roads it was possible to fully appreciate the capabilities of the 224-horsepower CLA 250 4MATIC engine, which accelerates the car to 100 km / h in 6.3 s. Thanks to the extended track, the Mercedes-Benz CLA feels confident when cornering and behaves supple even at a maximum speed of 250 km / h.
