The strengths and weaknesses of modern cars
The main advantage of modern cars is that they are able to quickly and comfortably transport people and goods over long distances. At the same time, the trip requires relatively little effort (for passengers it is generally a pleasure), and is also relatively cheap (even if we take into account the constantly rising prices for fuel).
The main distinctive features of modern cars are their high power, high speed and ease of operation. In modern cars, as a rule, a soft suspension is installed (especially for family cars), there is practically no noise in the cabin, there are many convenient devices, instruments and devices (air conditioning, ABS, climate and cruise control, power accessories, automatic transmission , etc.). Subject to the rules of operation of the machine will serve for a long time and reliably, without requiring large cash “injections”.
The undoubted advantage of a modern car is its appearance. The technologies of painting, processing, finishing and design of the body and the interior of the car have reached such a level that, as they say, the eye cannot be removed. Modern ergonomic design, carefully thought-out design, shiny and iridescent body attract the attention of even those who have never thought about their own car.
It is also important that most modern cars are economical in terms of fuel consumption. First of all, this applies to cars that have a diesel engine installed: at present, no one is surprised by fuel consumption within 3-5 liters per 100 kilometers of run.
Many modern cars can work on traditional fuel (gasoline or diesel), and on gas. This is a definite advantage, since gas is a cheaper type of fuel, and its consumption is about the same. Note that to work on liquid gas on the car, you must install the appropriate additional equipment. Some machines are equipped with such equipment already at the factory, but if it is not originally available, you can contact the service station with a corresponding request and install it separately.
Many beginners mistakenly believe that after installing gas equipment the machine will no longer be able to work on the traditional type of fuel. This is not so: the driver can always choose which fuel to drive on by switching the corresponding toggle switch to the desired position.
However, gas equipment can be not only an advantage, but also a disadvantage of your “iron horse”. First, sometimes when using such equipment in the cabin can smell the gas; This is not particularly dangerous, but of course there is little pleasant. Secondly, the gas cylinder (an analogue of the fuel tank) takes up quite a lot of space in the car’s trunk, and if you often use the car to transport large or multiple cargoes (this is typical, for example, for summer residents), then you will have to seriously push up.
If we talk about the shortcomings of road transport, it should be said about the negative impact of cars on the environment. Or rather, not the cars themselves, but the exhaust gases, which are formed as a result of the operation of the internal combustion engine (all modern cars operate on engines of this type). It is motor transport that is often the main reason why smog shrouds often hang over large modern cities. Among such cities, first of all, it is worth noting Tokyo, Mexico City, Moscow, New York, etc. Of course, other factors contribute to the formation of smog, in particular, the work of industrial enterprises, but the main reason is still automobile exhausts.
Another significant drawback of modern machines is the high cost of repair and maintenance. True, subject to the rules of operation of the car will serve a long and reliable. However, firstly, there is nothing eternal, and once something still breaks, and secondly, the maintenance itself also costs money. For example, a can of semi-synthetic engine oil costs from $ 20, an oil filter starts from $ 5, brake pads start at $ 20, and so on. If you add the cost of work to the necessary consumables (and we have listed far from all), then the total cost of the simplest maintenance can be $ 100 or more. And you did not repair anything, but only kept your car in working condition!
If we talk about repairs, the prices for parts are quite high, and the work is worth a lot of money. For example, a clutch assembly at the Ford Escort of any 1998 release will cost from $ 100 to $ 150 (depending on quality, manufacturer, place of purchase, and other factors), and work on replacing it will cost another $ 80-120 (depending on the service station).
