Talk about frills
Well, since the Russian person practically does not see the car itself, but sees only the so-called options for it, then let’s talk about it. I say this with great regret, because the manufacturers and dealers themselves stopped talking about the technical merits of the car itself, and all your attention was chained to the body kit, the look of the car, and so on.
Very simple example. This painted, defiantly dressed maiden attracts glances, but in fact, as a rule, inside is empty and close. And as for the men, they are unlikely to link her life. No, if, of course, they are slobbering men, then this is an option for them.
So here is the car. And what is there thrust? We will consider from all points of view.
The first – servo steering. Is it good or bad? In fact, all auto engineers have long known that the power steering is a murderer, and what a murderer, I tell you seriously. The real need for it arises only when you are in the so-called dimensional maneuvering at low speeds, respectively, then it will greatly facilitate the work with the steering wheel. If at speed, on a highway, you have to perform any kind of counter-emergency action, say, a dramatic change in the trajectory of movement, a number, etc., etc., then this “helper” can do you a disservice – it will help you have to play the box because an inexperienced hand will apply excessive force with fear.
There are steering service devices, which I see as very, very adequate, but they are, of course, complex and, as a result, expensive. Such devices are called adaptive. They provide an increase in the applied force at low speeds, just at this very dimensional maneuvering, and turn it off at a speed of more than 25-30 km / h.
It seems to me that it would also be advisable to make the servo system also slightly complicate the steering wheel slightly at higher speeds.
The following is an anti-lock system, or ABS, so it will be easier. This is the same anti-lock brakes. I have already said that the brake is death, and this death happens only because of one thing – the whole point is that almost any loss of control over the car is almost always associated with stopping the rotation of the wheels. So, a mad driver with bulging eyes in any situation, a little more serious than usual, with all the dope presses on the working brake pedal. Of course, the result does not keep you waiting. I assure you, the ABS system is designed for just such a category of drivers.
I can tell you about a certain experiment on the ice that I conducted about two years ago. They took two cars: one is a new one, Audi, good winter tires, ABS, etc., etc., the owner of a car who recently learned to drive a car is driving, and an ordinary Russian-made car, VAZ 2114, ordinary summer tires, no ABS, etc., etc. Distance – 100 meters from landmarks to landmarks. Acceleration – up to a speed of 35 km / h. At landmarks – mutual braking. We measure the stopping distance on a pole. What do we see with you? An interesting picture. A car equipped with winter tires, ABS, has a braking distance longer than a car driven by a very experienced person without winter tires and without any ABS. We change drivers in places, we get a picture again, another one: a car with ABS stops with a shorter stopping distance, a Russian car, VAZ 2114, travels an incredibly huge distance.
So what’s the reason, what’s the trouble, what do I want to tell you? Yes, I just want to say the following: a skillful and experienced foot can adequately stop the car. Generally, to be honest, I was not sure about the success of this venture, but I simply once again convinced that a skilled foot works better than a mechanism. And yet – by this I did not at all want to diminish the dignity and necessity of the ABS system for individual citizens. I wanted to show how a competent leg does it, that the ABS is no more than rough and incorrectly copies it. That’s all.
The ABS device is very simple, so the reliability of its work is quite high. And the last thing – for able and experienced drivers, it can create some inconvenience, although if you act with working brakes in your normal mode, then it will not manifest itself in any way.
Stability system. This system is, of course, more serious than the ABS, both in terms of device and price, although the idea is not new and painfully simple. And of course, like the ABS, designed to combat moron. How does it work and for what? In short, this is an electronic system that works with a multi-circuit brake system. Its task is to prevent the driver’s actions, if possible, against his will. If the first person from birth is not familiar with the laws of dynamics, movement, is not familiar with centrifugal force, this system with the help of a gyroscope and its similarity tracks the position of the vehicle body in space, tracks the speed of movement and the angle of rotation of the steered wheels.
